1984 born Tharindu received his primary and secondary education at Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, Sri Lanka and he received his first degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2007. He received his master’s degree in information & Communication Engineering from the same university in 2012. Tharindu holds an Executive master’s degree in information security from Asia e University, Malaysia, which was awarded in 2017. He currently serves as the Operations Manager of Austal Technology which is a Software R&D project team owned by Austal, Western Australia. Tharindu started working with them from 13th October 2020. Austal is the sole, "Australian owned" Ship Builder as well as a world leader of that kind.
Tharindu was elevated to the distinguish category of membership of Engineers Australia (EA) which is the category of 'Fellow' on the 25th January 2024. Membership as a Fellow is the highest level of membership with Engineers Australia. Moreoever, he became a senior member of the most distinguish engineering professional organization in the world, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) on Aug 14th, 2021 which is a significant achievement of his professional journey. Only a 10% of the whole membership are elevated to the Senior Category upon the professional experience plus competency and technical contribution to the engineering communities and it is the highest membership category that a member can apply for! He was awarded "Chartered" status by the Engineers Australia in Project Management which is another professional achievement! Not only with IEEE and EA, but also Tharindu is recognized by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) as a full member with the credential of "Certified Professional". Moreover, marking another milestone of his professional journey, he obtained the full membership of the IET which is the distinguish body for Engineers in the UK! As of May 13th, 2022, Tharindu was awarded the International Professional Engineer (IntPE) post nominal by the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka. He is the first Software Engineer and the second Computer Engineer in the country, to receive this distinguish credential.
Prior to that he served as the Team Lead of the Technical Support Team of BlackSwan Technologies, from 6th April 2020 to 29th October 2020. Tharindu worked from Perth, WA remotely for Sri Lankan working hours. Up to December 27th, 2019 he served as the General Manager at Seebo Networks Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and he was one of the pioneering employees of the company. He joined the Seebo project initiative in Sri Lanka, which was an Australian offshore operation on June 9th, 2014; at that time the company was not registered in Sri Lanka. Prior to Seebo, he worked at IFS R&D International (Pvt) Ltd. as a Software Engineer. Tharindu joined IFS on November 3rd, 2008. Prior to IFS, he worked at Interblocks (Pvt) Ltd as a Junior Software Engineer and at the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya, as a temporary academic staff member.
Tharindu became a chartered (computer) engineer in Sri Lanka in 2015 and he is one of the very few chartered computer engineers in Sri Lanka. The engineering charter is offered by the Institute of Engineers - Sri Lanka and Tharindu received the charter after successfully completing two written exams: viva and a technical presentation of experience and project reports.
Tharindu is the eldest son of the 'Weerasinghe' family headed by Dr. Ariyadasa Weerasinghe (father) and Mrs. Shirani Weerasinghe (mother). His hometown is Kurunegala, a city surrounded by rocks in the Northwestern part of Sri Lanka. Tharindu is married to Sunimali Jayaweera, who is a Radiologist by profession.
He is not only a computer engineer, but also an independent researcher in the areas of Cryptography and Network Security, a freelance journalist (for Vidusara - the oldest science magazine in Sri Lanka, Daily News - the National English Newspaper and Daily Mirror - a Local English Newspaper), a compeer, poet and lyricist. He has published several books up to now.
